Camping is not for everyone and personally we are past the stage of shaking off sand in our sleeping bags or worrying what creepy crawlies we might discover during a midnight toilet break.
But there is a lot to be said for spending time outdoors, whether its on the beach, in the bush or by a river, and sitting around a BBQ or a Firepit is always a great idea. Who doesn’t like a toasted marshmallow !?
So the latest solution for those of us who want the best of both worlds, is Glamping ! A nice bed, a good shower, a decent size fridge and possibly even a TV and better yet, its all supplied by someone else. Yippeeee !
So last weekend we had a great stay at the new Rivershore Resort on the Maroochy River. Only open about a month and already a big hit with locals and explorers from far and wide Rivershore is part of the Big 4 chain and includes a lovely restaurant, a bar ( HAPPY HOUR at 5!), 2 swimming pools with a massive water slide and kids playground and, best of all, 14 safari tents featuring all the mod-cons and luxuries that people like me like the best. King size beds, a well designed kitchenette, a wardrobe, a good size deck with Weber BBQ, a big TV AND a huge bathroom with free standing bath tub and possibly the best shower pressure I have ever experienced.
Once part of the huge Erbacher’s fruit and veggie farm ( the market is still open next door – great for our teenage atheletes daily fruit run) Rivershore has been thoughtfully designed and carefully planned with a lot of extra’s not many places offer. A massage tent, a vending machine for bait and fishing tackle, a huge inflatable trampoline, a boat ramp, 3 big camp kitchens a small but well equipped shop ( WINE) and even SUP, Kayak & Bike hire as well as FREE WIFI. I really cant think of anything else they could provide.
Whilst the majority of customers are baby boomers and families with small kids ( they also play movies at night on a big outdoor screen) the Safari tents provide accommodation suitable for couples, families and groups of friends with King tents able to cater to 4 and 2 bedroom tents big enough for 6.
We had visits from several local friends who were all thrilled to see an affordable quality addition to the Sunshine Coast scene. I’m not sure our teenager loved it as much as us but next time we would get the 2 bedder and make sure he takes a friend.
Otherwise for us Glamping is definately the new Camping and there’s no going back !
